all of my red heads have used a wubbanub. my first wasn't much of a paci baby, but he still dug the animal. my second is a thumb-sucker, but can't survive a day without the tags of this little dude (he has the monkey), and my baby girl uses hers religiously as the good Lord intended.
the wubbanub was designed to keep the paci from rolling away into the abyss during the night, and to keep parents from frantically searching for the blasted paci whilst their young screams as though they're dying. it's designed in such a way, that even if baby spits it out once he falls asleep, it stays put, and is easily found by above said young.
pros:
- great for breastfeeding babies whose mom's are okay with paci's. it's the soothie paci (you know, the ugly one they give you in the hospital) and very much mimics mom.
- the paci stays put, and never again will you have to fumble around in the dark, looking for a paci, while cursing your own child.
- it's washable. as in, the washing machine. it says to line dry, but i toss mine in the dryer occassionally, because i live on the edge.
- it's cute. i mean, come on. a monkey? a duck? a frog? a dog? what's not to love.
- it makes finding paci, even in broad daylight, easy to do. because you know, if you see the animal, you've found the paci.
cons:
- it's bulkier than most paci's, so it doesn't fit in those cute paci holder things.
- the paci is NOT removable. i cut one off, and now my monkey boy refuses to hold that particular monkey.
- clips for keeping paci from disappearing from your life at target are difficult to find. they CAN be found, but you've got to get creative.
tips, tricks, need to knows:
- my sister-in-law is a nurse and worked for many years at a long term care facility where they used wabbanubs for their patients.
- your kid may be attached to the animal long after they outgrow the paci.
- my OTHER s-i-l cut a hole in the tip of the paci of her little's frog, because it was time to move on. the paci was 'broken' so her little wanted nothing to do with it.
i would TOTALLY recommend this product to an awesome friend.
